New Visa Application Form DS-160 is Replacing DS-156 and DS-157

12/18/09. Summary: The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs recently announced that it will continue to roll-out form DS-160, a completely web-based nonimmigrant visa (NIV) application form, worldwide by May 2010 to replace NIV application forms DS-156 and DS-157.

Employment Based Quota Backlog Predictions

12/18/09. Summary:

The U.S. State Department writes the following in its December 2009 Visa Bulletin:

"Based on current indications of demand, the best case scenarios for cut-off dates which will be reached by the end of FY-2010 are as follows:

Employment Second:

  • China: July through December 2005
  • India: February through early March 2005 (it may progress as far as December 2005 if there are unused numbers from the EB-2 worldwide quota, even though it may exceed India's annual per-country EB-2 limit)

New Visa Application Form DS-160

08/06/09. Summary:

A new Visa Application form (form DS-160) will be gradually phased in, and will ultimately replace forms DS-156, 157, 158, and other related Visa Application forms, such as the DS-156E, 156K, and 156V. The new form can be prepared on-line and submitted to the U.S. State Department electronically over the Internet, including the ability to attach an electronic passport photo. The new form DS- 160 is not required everywhere yet. Click here for the the most updated list of U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide requiring DS-160.
